Episode 3: Understanding the new BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit
BC is changing the way it funds support for children and youth with disabilities — and the shift is significant. The new BC Children and Youth Disability Benefit moves away from diagnosis-specific funding toward a needs-based model, meaning eligibility and funding amount will be determined by how much support your child actually requires day to day. For some families — particularly those with children with FASD who previously received little or no structured funding — this could open doors that were previously closed. For others, including some families currently receiving Autism Funding, the change may mean a different level of support depending on their child's functional needs. This episode focuses on what the new benefit means specifically for children and youth with FASD, and how caregivers can prepare. Includes a free downloadable caregiver handout.
